At the close of a 72 hour deadline for Australian troop withdrawl from Iraq, the brother of hostage Douglas Wood offered a "generous" donation to the people of Iraq for his release.
Pleading with the kidnappers to show a similar sense of charity, Malcom Wood said he and his family had "to reflect on the many difficulties, sorrows and humiliations experienced by the people of Iraq, who are our fellow brothers and sisters."
The money, which Wood insists is not a ransom, could be spent in any charitable way the kidnappers see fit.
Australian Muslim leader, Sheik Taj el-Din al Hilaly, traveled to Baghdad to ask the kidnappers for more time. Hilaly's appeal ran on the news channels of Al Arabiya.
