The US Dept. of Justice announced today that Pentagon analyst Lawrence Franklin, 58, has been arrested and charged with giving classified information about potential attacks on US Iraqi forces.
Franklin, 58, gave himself up to the FBI to face a maximum of 10 years in prison if found guilty of leaking information the influential American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
On June 26, 2003, Franklin is alleged to have met with unnamed individuals from AIPAC for lunch where he disclosed top-secret information.
Law enforcement officials said the two AIPAC members provided the information.
"A search of Franklin's Pentagon office in June 2004 found the June 2003 classified document containing the information that Franklin allegedly disclosed to the two individuals," the Justice Department said.
A search of Franklin's office revealed 83 separate classified US government documents spanning 3 decades.
The FBI and the Justice Dept. have been investigating Franklin for a long time, suspecting his involvement with Israeli and AIPAC spies.
