Bush Equals Robin Hood On Social Security

President Bush held his first prime time press conference in his second term and only the fourth in his presidency to discuss new changes to his social security overhaul system as he proposed to take money from the rich and give to the poor.

The president has proposed a welfare style system that will pay more to those who are poorer and less to those who are wealthier. He believes this will help the solvency of the system and take care of those less fortunate.

"I believe a reformed system should protect those who depend on Social Security the most," President Bush said during his news conference.

Bush has run round the country for the last two months trying to shore up support for his plan. He originally wanted allow some privatized portions of the current system and allow people to divert some of their funds into the stock market or other possible investments. He still supports the idea but most critics claim this won't work and the Democrats have worked over Bush on this issue.

Another heated topic remains gas prices. With prices at the pump at record highs and the price indices climbing, economists are getting jumpy. The president called for passage of his energy bill although he's stated none of his proposals on the table will help matters in the short term. With reports yesterday of the slowest economic growth in two years, fuel remains a major point of concern.

His U.N. ambassador nominee, John Bolton also had to be defended. The embattled nominee has faced sharp criticism and many colleagues say they concerns about his attitude and alleged need to change intelligence data to suit his agenda. Reports of screaming matches in Russian hotels and attempts to fire or transfer employees as well as altering some intelligence information loom heavily as Bolton awaits his fate from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
