President Bush gave Tom DeLay a strong show of support in Galveston in Tuesday as DeLay appeared with the president to help shore up support for the social security initiative.
The president thanked DeLay for his leadership in Congress all the while House majority leader faces an onslaught of accusations regarding his integrity and behavior.
Tom DeLay's troubles are myriad although the republican myrmidon has relentlessly helped the White House get important legislation through the lower chamber including the energy package voted on last week. The White House will continue to need DeLay's strong influence to get more legislation through including the hard fought social security battle.
Dan Bartlett said in an AP story, ""I think actions speak louder than words. The House leadership, and specifically Tom DeLay, has not changed. He is a very effective leader."
DeLay and several other Texas Republicans flew back to D.C. with the President on Air Force One.
The Democrats have kept up their onslaught on DeLay.
"Its time for George Bush to stop giving Tom DeLay a free ride," said spokeswoman Karen Finney, Democratic National Committee spokeswoman in the same AP story.
The DeLay problems have been going on for quite some time now. He's been in trouble for ethics in the past. The FBI is now investigating his former top aides as credit card showed that lobbyists paid for DeLay's recent trip to England, which is against the law.
