The 3rd largest hamburger chain breathed a sigh of relief after an ongoing battle to find the finger as the authorities put the finger on Anna Ayala for larceny in Las Vegas.
Ms. Ayala claimed she was eating in a Wendy's in San Jose, Ca. when she found a severed finger in her chili. Wendy's promptly investigated and offered a reward. Wendy's said their internal investigations turned up nothing.
The incident drew national publicity and Ms. Ayala appeared on national television including programs like Good Morning America discussing this sinister event.
The arrest was related to the finger incident but the origin of the finger remains a mystery.
Ms. Ayala apparently has some history suing big corporations including the Pollo Loco restaurant chain, Goodyear, and GM.
Wendy's International, based in Ohio, was tickled with the arrest of Ms. Ayala. There sales in the San Jose area had suffered quite a bit since the finger incident.
"We're thrilled that an arrest has been made," Tom Mueller, president of the company's North American business, said in a statement
