Artistry rather than a lengthy text come-on represents the attack vector some spammers took with their Valentine's holiday mailing.
Malware distributors love to hit inboxes with spam that either reflects hot current news topics, or holidays. In the latter category, a game of Valentine Bingo lays at the heart of a new scam.
Email security vendor Commtouch said recent spams they have observed play on the hearts-and-flowers vibe of February 14th, known as Valentine's Day to the gift industry and Doomsday to countless people.
The spam noted by Commtouch arrives with a brief message, like You're My Valentine or Valentine Friends, and a link to an IP address. That destination contains a Valentine's Day Bingo image or other artwork with cute but pilfered graphics.
Oh, and a malware download that Commtouch claimed isn't detected yet by a lot of AV vendors.
It's the kind of love even the most lovelorn need to do without. As always, toss out suspicious emails if they make it past your usual security measures. Love may be a many splendored thing, but no one should make it easier to get an infection.
