With the enormous popularity of MySpace, which continues to grow rapidly, it is no surprise that it's users are being targeted by phishing scams.
Sophos has posted a warning about a new spam campaign that is using the MySpace to phish for users' personal information. Links in the email take the user to a fake website, which poses as an online music store.
The campaign appears to be widespread across the globe. Usual subject lines read something like " 'New message from <name> on MySpace sent on <date> <time>'.
In the body, the message typically says something like "You've got a new song from <name> on MySpace!', and asks the user to click on a link for "your MySpace music".
The slippery S.O.B.s even use the following message in their emails as part of their shenanigans:
At MySpace we care about your privacy. We have sent you this notification to facilitate your use as a member of the MySpace service. If you don't want to receive emails like this to your external email account in the future, change your Account Settings to "Do not send me notification emails"
The buggers. Don't let them get YOU!
