According to a survey from security company AuthenTec, most U.S. residents are not taking steps to safeguard themselves from identity theft.
The biggest reasons for this appear to be confusion about cost, time, and available solutions. In fact, according to the survey, the numbers read something like this: -- 27% don't understand what is available
-- 24% believe it's too expensive
-- 11% believe it's too time consuming
-- 6% believe it's too complicated Over 2,000 U.S. residents took part in the survey, and only 73% of them were even concerned about identity theft at all. The rest will likely change their minds when it happens to them.
About half of those surveyed felt like the risk of having their identity stolen was basically equal between work and home. 54% admitted to not taking precautionary measures. More here.
