Symantec commissioned a survey among software developers in June regarding the need for application security improvement.
The survey was conducted by Applied Research on behalf of Symantec.
Out of the 400 developers in the U.S. that participated in the survey, 93% agreed that application security is a higher priority than it was three years ago.
The survey found that 70% had employers that put emphasis on app security, though somewhat alarmingly, only 29% said that it was always a part of the development process.
"As the gateway to information over the Internet and internal corporate networks, applications have become a company's greatest asset and, in turn, an attacker's primary objective," said Symantec Global Consulting Services Vice President Charlie Johnson.
"Application security plays a large role in one of the biggest problems plaguing online business as consumers move toward a digital lifestyle," Johnson added.
Symantec points out that it's threat report from March indicated a growing trend in web app-related vulnerabilities.
