McAfee's SiteAdvisor has made the annual Time Magazine "50 Coolest Websites" list, and the company is honored.
"We're very grateful to Time for this award, and we're pleased that McAfee SiteAdvisor is increasingly recognized as an essential tool for safe surfing and safe searching," said McAfee Consumer Executive Vice President Bill Kerrigan.
"McAfee SiteAdvisor has pioneered a new approach to Web safety by arming consumers with the information they need, when they need it, to make smarter, safer clicks," added Kerrigan. McAfee's press release says:
McAfee SiteAdvisor has pioneered Web safety by testing and rating, on an ongoing basis, nearly every trafficked site on the Internet for a wide variety of Web safety issues including spyware, viruses, exploits, online scams, and spam. McAfee SiteAdvisor's database contains safety test result for more than 6.4 million Web sites.
Time Magazine's winning sites were culled from hundreds of candidates and typically offered "...dynamic new ways to inform and entertain." According to Time, McAfee SiteAdvisor "...aims to keep you out of trouble -- or, to be precise, stop you from clicking through to websites where spyware, worms, and other cyber threats lurk ... Why would you need this? Because simply clicking through to a suspect site can wreak havoc on a PC, and risky sites comprise a growing portion of search returns."
SiteAdvisor is included with each McAfee 2007 consumer security product, and is also available for free download here.
