Yahoo Finance upgraded its site a couple of weeks ago. Apparently the makeover didn't go over so well with some people - Yahoo Finance was defaced over the weekend, according to a report from Zone-H.
Everything appears to be back to normal now, but Donnie Werner of Zone-H offered a mirror of the defacement here.
"The servers in question were running the FreeBSD, generally regarded as quite secure, so we have to wonder if the attack leveraged a configuration error or a flaw in a 3rd party application as in fact was anonimously [sic] reported by the attackers," Werner wrote in the article.
He compared the Yahoo Finance defacement to the recent attacks on the NASA site. In terms of the technical execution, they appear similar, but the Yahoo vandalism lacked the political messages left on other pages.
It's always a bit disconcerting (or at least annoying) to see a major site get defaced. "st4ck, hux0x, gridrunk, freak, hellsink, losjack and blah" appear to be responsible for Yahoo Finance issue, in case you were wondering.
