A little over a week ago, it was reported that security company WebSense was using Google to search for and identify malware.
Wouldn't it be cool if there was a search tool available to anyone that could do just that? Well H.D. Moore, the creator of the open source Metasploit project thought so and has come up with just such a tool.
According to SearchEngineWatch, the logo for the tool originally said "Malware" in Google style letters, but to avoid any conflict, they censored the image.
There has been a bit of controversy about the tool potentially being used by the wrong people. The Register quotes Moore:
"Attackers have much better sources of malware, and the items in the Google index are not recent or useful," he told IDG. "If anything, the Google index is a great tool for determining who distributes malware; the actual malware in question is not that interesting."
The point, however, will no doubt still continue to be debated on blogs and in forums across the Internet.
