In the U.S., much attention is given to protecting data, given the rash of identity thefts, not to mention compliance with many information protection regulations such as HIPPA and Sarbanes-Oxley.

However, according to an article in Workforce Management Magazine, corporations with an international footprint may be missing the boat on a huge workforce compliance issues overseas -- Employee Data Privacy Rules.

International legislation in Europe and other countries now focuses on the protection of employee privacy and data. Especially given that more and more international firms are seeking to consolidate their workforce data and use it to make better decisions. Add to the mix the rise of outsourcing which lends itself to an increased amount of employee data zapped outside of companies and countries.

While some multinationals take employee data guidelines seriously, many U.S. firms haven't done much to meet privacy law, analysts say. A breach of employee data could be as damaging to a company's reputation as a consumer data breach. According to the article, one such company is working to correct that. General Electric is in the midst of getting European approvals for a worldwide employee privacy policy it has drawn up--a policy that could serve as a model for other firms.

Many call accounting and call accounting system applications, like MegaCall by TelSoft Solutions, are created with the highest level of encryption technology available, ensuring the security and protection of data so valuable to businesses today, and when used properly, can further a multi-national's efforts to comply with foreign privacy regulations.
