Two security software makers have made available free anti-virus software for those testing the beta version of Windows Vista, through an arrangement with Microsoft.
Computer Associates and Trend Micro are both offering free trial subscriptions of their security software configured for the beta testing. Microsoft warns users to uninstall any other virus protection software before installing either offering as there may be compatibility problems.
Computer Associates' eTrust EZ Antivirus is available on a 12-month trial subscription, downloadable from the website. The software, certified independently by ICSA Labs, Virus Bulletin and West Coast Labs, comes with 24-hour support and automatic daily updates, while boasting of quick scan times and efficient use of system resources.
Trend Micro's free trial of its PC-cillin Internet Security 14.55 is available through October 31, 2006, also downloadable through the company's website. Trend Micro says the PC-cillin software protects against viruses worms, and Trojan horse programs with a personal firewall, and comes with spyware and spam protection as well. In addition, the company has also installed features for blocking phishing and pharming scams.
