Two teenagers from New York allegedly hacked into MySpace and stole the personal information of its users.
18-year-old Shaun Harrison and 19-year-old Saverio Mondelli then allegedly threatened to expose how they stole the info to the world if MySpace didn't pay them $150,000. According to WCBS-TV New York,
The Los Angeles district attorney said Harrison and Mondelli operated a Web site called myspaceplus.com from Medford. Prosecutors said the pair developed a computer code that enabled them to get personal information on users of MySpace.
Mondelli and Harrison were arrested Friday when they traveled to Los Angeles to allegedly collect the payoff. Instead, undercover officers took them into custody.
Harrison and Mondelli have been charged with illegal computer access and attempted extortion. Their bail has been set $35,000 and a preliminary hearing will take place on June 5.
