Sophos has appointed a new non-executive Chairman to its Board of Directors.

He is Peter Gyenes, who was recently the Chairman and CEO of Ascential Software until it was acquired by IBM last year.

"Peter's experience with developing expert technology companies and leading their transformation into major players will help us accelerate our growth strategies, and strengthen our offerings to customers and our leadership in security and control," said Sophos CEO Steve Munford.

This experience Munford speaks of is four decades in technical, sales, marketing and general management positions internationally.

According to Sophos, Ascential grew from a $50 million business to a $1.1 billion one under Gyenes' control.
