With many reports circulating suggesting that Windows Vista will eliminate the need for separate security solutions, Symantec does not appear to be scared.

Symantec CEO John Thompson said at a press conference, "we know more about security than they ever will," and claimed that Symantec will "out-innovate" Microsoft.

Of course it will take the proper marketing to instill that mentality in the public mind, and Symantec is prepared for that. Thompson has a lot of faith in the Symantec brand, claiming that the company is synonymous with security.

"Microsoft brand is synonymous with a lot of things. Security is not one of them," said Thompson.

Symantec is prepared for an increase in marketing expenses and to distribute more resources to protecting users with Microsoft systems.
