As concern over security of data outsourced to India has increased, the National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom) is taking steps to alleviate it.
Silicon.com's Sylvia Carr reports that Nasscom is trying to promote the idea that India is in fact the safest place for business process outsourcing. The body will set standards for privacy and security, and monitor its members to ensure they adhere to them. If it discovers breaches it will consider a "range of punishments" which could include expelling members or involving law enforcement, according to Mehta [Nasscom VP].
Training will also be offered to companies that need support in order to be compliant with the security standards. The initiative, which has so far cost Nasscom $300,000, comes after allegations of Indian outsourcing fraud including the sale of customer data by staff members.
