McAfee announced the availability of its anti-virus support for Intel-based Macs, McAfee VirusScan for Mactel 8.0.
The solution, which runs under Apple's Rosetta emulator, is said to help protect Mac users from Mac and Windows-based viruses, Trojans and other malicious threats.
McAfee Avert Labs says that Mac vulnerabilities have increased over 228 percent since 2003 due to the rising popularity of Apple's consumer products, though some downplay these stats.
McAfee Avert Labs does also add that the Mac OS X operating system is still safer than Windows-based platforms. Nevertheless, threats are still there, and McAfee VirusScan for Mactel is here to protect against them.
As McAfee vice president of product marketing Eric Winsborrow says, "As more companies deploy Mac systems running on the Intel platform in mixed environments, the risk of infection will most likely increase."
