A new security software company called Exploit Prevention Labs has been launched by two guys named Bob Bales and Roger Thompson.
The company is taking aim at zero-day exploits targeted at Windows users, with its first product SocketShield, which is still in beta.
Exploit Prevention Labs intends to keep systems safe in the time period between the discovery of new vulnerabilities, and the issuing of patches from vendors.
"It's simply impossible for application vendors to develop instant fixes for newly-discovered exploits," says Thompson, who aside from being the company's co-founder is also its CTO.
"It takes weeks or months for application vendors to release a patch because it must be thoroughly tested to ensure it doesn't adversely affect the application or any other application that might be installed on the user's system," he continues. "SocketShield prevents exploits from gaining access to users' computers during the risk window before the permanent patch can be applied."
SocketShield can be downloaded from Exploit Prevention Labs' site. More details on the company and product can be read in this press release.
