Solid Information Technology is adapting its online transaction processing (OLTP) storage engine to work with MySQL Server.
This means that businesses will be able to adopt open source relational databases for mission-critical applications.
Solid President and CEO Alain Couder had this to say, "The adoption of open source database technology is on the rise. With more than 14 years of experience providing proven technology for mission-critical environments, Solid is uniquely positioned to bring open source database technology to the next level, enabling MySQL users to extend their deployments to the most demanding OLTP applications."
Notable features of solidDB Storage Engine include:
- robust security with database roles
- multi-version concurrency control
- full transactional integrity with robust ACID support
- online backup capabilities
- quick performance for mixed workloads
- dynamically configurable parameters
AberdeenGroup research director Stacey Quandt points out that the solidDB open source storage engine will enable a smooth transition for customers looking for an alternative to Oracle's InnoDB.
As CNET says, MySQL database works with different storage engines, and it is developing one of its own as well.
SolidDB Storage Engine for MySQL will become available for testing on April 24. The source code itself is scheduled to become available in beta form this July, and the product will become generally available sometime in the fourth quarter of this year.
