The British government expressed disdain with the United States over the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), or more specifically, the software code. They claim the U.S. had manufacturers put in a backdoor code in them to control the jets.
According to an article in the British newspaper, "The Daily Telegraph," the minister for defense procurement, Lord Drayson will testify before the Senate Armed Services subcommittee.
They said he plans on discussing gaining access to key software technology in the JSF. Right now, all their questions must go directly through manufacturer Lockheed. They want access to the technology involved in the fighter, including the software, so they can handle maintenance and upgrades themselves.
The problem, as it stands now, is getting that access. Even with a tight ally like Britain, it still takes 20 days to get through those steps. They want to make the transition smoother and certainly much faster as the JSF is going to be the only fighter on two new aircraft carriers.
