F-Secure picked up on two more variants of the Inqtana worms. While the worms are extremely limited in their lifespan, they do show hackers are beginning to play with the code and more serious threats will be coming soon.
According to F-Secure's blog and bulletin, in addition to OSX/Inqtana.A, variants OSX/Inqtana.B and Inqtana.C also exist. They said they are very close to the original with these two also being tied to Bluetooth and expiring on February 24, which is Friday of this week.
Like Inqtana.A the .B and .C are locked to certain bluetooth addresses and are time limited to 24. February 2006, so they will not be able to replicate on any real environment and will work only in specially crafted lab. However it is possible that some virus author will create similar worms that are not intentionally limited, so please make sure that your OS X is up to date.
These threats, as far as immediacy are really inconsequential. They won't go anywhere. But they do show more threats are creeping up and it's only a matter of time before a Leap or Inqtana variant creeps up and really tags the system. People must stay vigilant, even with their Macs.
