Last week, Mozilla distributed a critical update for their Firefox browser. For those who didn't update, they should because the exploits are out now and they hit hard. The bug hit the net on Tuesday most security folks are saying update now.
The damaging code showed up on the Metasploit Project web site. The code sets up exploit modules for the Framework tool. This would allow hackers the ability to corrupt Firefox's memory and in turn take over the computer or running programs.
According to InformationWeek, Symantec said they confirmed the exploit works on Linux systems and said that Windows users could expect the code to be made public soon.
While these exploits are dangerous to one's system, they are beatable by simply downloading the fix. The other point to watch is now that Firefox is a much stronger player in the browser market, they're going to be getting hit more and more often. This is going to mean more frequent updates for all the Mozilla products as vulnerabilities start to show up more often.
