Honeywell International has some issues to resolve regarding its employees. The company is offering credit monitoring and identity theft insurance after 19,000 current and former employees had all their personal information posted on the net.
Company spokesman Robert C. Ferris was quoted by the AP, "The company immediately contacted the relevant service provider, had the page removed from the Internet and is continuously monitoring the Internet to ensure that the Web page and any copies of it remain taken down."
Honeywell also said they're working with investigators on the federal and state levels to resolve how this occurred. Ferris also said, "Honeywell will aggressively pursue those responsible for this breach."
There are some things to note about this. As the AP story pointed out, one reason for the hack could be to show Honeywell they have lousy cybersecurity. The other could've been just crooks looking to cash in on the information.
The other point to note is that Honeywell is a multinational corporation based in the U.S. with over 100,000 employees worldwide. They also do defense and aerospace contracting. This would seem fairly vulnerable for a company with such a significant role in our nation. The problem is, though, they're not the only ones with these types of problems. For that matter, the government has these problems too.
These issues need to be resolved before real damage is done.
