As everyone gets ready for Microsoft's release of its new Windows: Vista, one major point of discussion is security. One thing they've added will be a two-way firewall to the mix. This new feature will allow for tighter controls on the firewall for both ingoing and outgoing items.
This should be just the thing for administrators to keep a tight eye on their group now with the new and improved applications controls. And, according to Microsoft's Community Technology Preview group, this puppy seems to be right where it needs to be.
The great thing about this firewall will be the two-way option is it covers traffic both coming and going. It'll block trying to connect from the outside as well as software trying to connect to the outside.
Microsoft has a lot of ground to make up regarding security, particularly after all the problems XP have had. It's no great secret security has been atrocious for XP. While this feature is aimed primarily at big business, it could certainly have uses in the home market. As many people struggle to keep their computers out of the zombie networks, this could be a real help in dealing with that problem
