The Federal Trade Commission is helping consumers test their knowledge about protecting their personal information and responding if their identity is stolen by adding a new quiz to the FTC's OnGuardOnline website.
The website, launched in September to increase consumer awareness about security issues on the Internet, is the hub of a greater campaign involving high-profile partners like Microsoft, eBay, and the Direct Marketing Association.
The multimedia campaign offers online videos and print "advertorials" to educate the public about how to recognize scams, shop online more securely, and avoid viruses and scams.
The new quiz asks visitors questions about getting a free credit report, using smart passwords and taking the right steps after an identity theft. It is the latest addition to a list of quizzes that address security topics like spyware and phishing scams.
The comprehensive Web site has tips, articles, videos, and interactive activities. There is no copyright on the quizzes or other information on OnGuardOnline.gov; the information can be downloaded by companies and other organizations to use in their own computer security programs.
