The former head of the U.S. cyber security division is taking over as president and CEO of In-Q-Tel, the CIA's venture capital arm. Amit Yoran, 35 took the job last week and has experience both in technology and in venture capital.
As a successful technology entrepreneur, investor, and former government leader, Yoran joins In-Q-Tel having spent the past year advising emerging security technology companies and working with larger firms to develop security strategies.
In 2003, Yoran was appointed as Director of the National Cyber Security Division at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, where he was responsible for information sharing and managing national and global initiatives to thwart computer network attacks.
Yoran co-founded Riptech, a venture-backed security firm added to Symantec back in 2002. There, he was Vice President of Worldwide Managed Security Services. He also worked at the Defense Dept. as an overseer for the Vulnerability Assessment Program within the computer Emergency Response Team.
He serves on numerous corporate board and advisory boards including Guidance Software, Guardium, FBI InfraGard, Dept. of Homeland Security, SRI Cyber R&D Center Advisory Board. He also graduated from West Point.
