Microsoft put out their advanced notification today for their monthly security bulletin. Tuesday the patch will be available and they do a webcast on Wednesday to follow up.
The maximum total severity rating is Critical and will require a restart so they recommend installing the update ASAP. They said there will be a new version of the Malicious Software Removal Tool as well as five non-security updates. The non-security updates will be rated as high priority.
The webcast will happen on Wednesday Dec. 14th at 11:00 a.m. PST.
Hopefully for Microsoft, these updates will be on time and not problematic because the world's largest software company has had problems with their patches in recent months. In some cases, those patch created as many problems as they solved. One point they said they would take care of in this round is the to identify the rootkit from the infamous Sony BMG discs containing the now nasty rootkit row.
