Lots of companies are offering security software these days. AOL is now offering their version of a security suite. They launched this venture on Tuesday and it works against viruses, spyware and identity fraud.
The crew at AOL's Safety and Security Center have been improving their offerings for a while but now they're offering a complete package in a set of automatic online safety tools. The features are automatically updated and is aimed particularly at those using broadband.
"A broadband connection is basically an open pipe to the Internet, which means that high speed users are particularly vulnerable to thousands of new viruses and spyware threats as they emerge," said Joe Redling, President, AOL Access Business.
"That's why it's so important for our members to have safeguards like anti-virus, spyware protection, phishing protection and a firewall as they move into the broadband world. Through the Safety and Security Center, AOL offers the most comprehensive set of automatic online safety tools available anywhere -- for both dial-up and broadband members -- all in convenient place. Our goal is to offer a simple, one-step solution that makes it easy to stay safe online."
They've also included other features people want like parental controls, spam settings, pop-up controls, Money Alerts and Computer Check-up. McAfee powers their virus protection and firewall and CA takes care of the AOL Spyware Protection 2.0.
All in all, not a bad package. They've tried to simplify things a bit with the control settings and the default may be the way to go for most people. They plan to do a broadcast advertising campaign to go with this so look for the commercials.
