Customers of the Bank of Bermuda need to keep an eye out for the latest phishing scam because it's coming for them. The attack, launched from Lawrenceburg, Tennessee sent spam emails in an attempt to get people to turn over their banking information in this nefarious plot.
The spam messages said they were from the security department at Bank of Bermuda, logo and all, and urged people to go to a new site and verify their information. The Bermuda newspaper, the Royal Gazette, quoted part of their statement about the matter:
"The bank acted immediately and has, through the appropriate authorities, disabled the offending site and has published a warning on the bank's sign-on page for EasyLink Online, advising customers of this recent phishing attack," said Bank of Bermuda in a statement.
"We would like to advise our customers that any requests received via e-mail to validate personal information be declined. Under no circumstances would Bank of Bermuda send e-mails requesting customer to confirm debit or credit card number, account number or their personal log on information."
Phishing scams continue to proliferate. When you receive them, contact the company the scammers claim to represent and then delete the email. Unfortunately, all it takes is just a few folks to fall for it and that's all they need.
