As if it is any surprise, security concerns about mobile devices are as strong as ever, according to the results of a survey conducted by mobile security developer Bluefire Security Technologies.
With a great deal of the survey's participants using their wireless devices for web surfing, text/picture messaging, and accessing corporate as well as personal email accounts, the room for potential threats is very great.
Bluefire maintains that as long as there is room for these threats, sales of wireless devices will not reach their potential at least in corporate settings. Participants of the survey seem to agree. 80% said that the embedding of security software would likely accelerate purchase and deployment of mobile devices in their organizations.
"Enterprises and individuals are relying on their devices for ever more sophisticated tasks and are signaling they want to buy more devices," said Bluefire Security Technologies COO Scott Schelle. "But until the security issues are addressed purchases will continue to be delayed."
The three biggest security concerns among participants of the survey are protection and/or encryption of the device data, loss or theft of a device, and security of data during wireless transmission.
