The Santa Ana based Troy Group reported it discovered its e-Check servers had been compromised. Troy filed a report with the FBI and notified customers hackers had been into their computer systems. The company said they've also begun their own forensic analysis into the incident.
The Troy Group offers two product lines: Secure Payment Systems and Wireless and Connectivity Solutions. After this incident though, one must consider the security of the firm's products, considering payment systems are already a major target for hackers anyway.
"Our forensic firm is also advising us on additional preventive measures and we have implemented their immediate recommendations and are in process of implementing others," stated Patrick J. Dirk, chairman and CEO.
"We take information security and the protection of customer records very seriously. We have many safeguards and processes in place. We intend to pursue this criminal action to the fullest and will support the prosecution of this individual or individuals when apprehended."
This is just another case of aggressive hacking. One good point for Troy is they promptly notified both the FBI and got the word out to the press. This is a decent PR move considering so many companies would never admit something like this.
