McAfee and Gateway announced today that they have entered a two-year agreement in which McAfee Internet Security Suite will be installed on all Gateway and eMachines PCs.
This goes for both the consumer direct and retail product lines starting at the end of 2005. The computers will feature a free 90-day trial subscription to the suite, and then users will have to purchase the subscription if they wish keep the service.
According to a press release, consumers will get a free 90-day complimentary subscription to the McAfee Internet Security Suite, after which they can purchase a subscription.
"Gateway plans to be at the forefront when it comes to PC security and we're confident that the McAfee Internet Security Suite provides the highest level of protection against a wide variety of threats," said Gateway senior vice president of Products, Marketing and Web, Greg Memo.
McAfee will be the exclusive security provider for Gateway's "Configure to Order" service for 15 month, 24 month or 36 month licenses to the McAfee Internet Security Suite. As a result, consumers who order a PC directly from Gateway will be able to purchase McAfee Internet Security Suite and have the software already preinstalled on the PC.
