Symantec released the results of a survey that it conducted with IDC regarding the security of mid-sized businesses in India.
Among the participants of the survey were IT staff members from over 400 companies with up to 700 employees in Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Pune, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad.
The survey found that 63% of the companies believe email threats to be their biggest security concern. According to DQ Channels, IT enabled Services (ITeS), Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), Call Centers reported the highest usage of security software solutions and over 80% had a security policy in place. Protection of hard disk, network integrity and emails and attachments were the three most important reasons stated for the use of security solutions.
Organisations in New Delhi lead the way with the highest security awareness level - 93% said that they had a security policy in place. This is followed by Mumbai at 63% and Chennai at 62%. "Many current threats are motivated by profit and a desire to perpetrate criminal acts, such as identity theft, extortion, and fraud through fraudulent offers. It badly affects the bandwidth and the speed of the network," ChannelTimes.com quotes IDC India head of research Parijat Chakraborty as saying.
"As the threat landscape continues to evolve and attacks become increasingly sophisticated, companies can no longer afford to take security for granted. Companies need to be diligent in keeping their IT systems updated with the latest security patches and security solutions."
