All of a sudden, Microsoft is having some terrific problems with their patches. In September, they stopped the patch release at the last minute. They've already had problems with the October patch and then they announce it won't work on some systems. What's up with Microsoft's patches?

Microsoft announced systems with Windows 2000 running DirectX8.0 or DirectX9.0 "may not be updated."

"In this scenario the computer is still vulnerable to the issue that is described in Security Update MS05-050. Additionally, when this symptom occurs, you do not receive notification that the computer is not updated."

Microsoft has had a number of security problems in recent months and Windows 2000 seems to catch most it. After multiple problems with the patch in October, one can only hope that the November kit will be better.
