A security flaw in Yahoo's email service was disclosed to the public on Friday by SEC-Consult, but Yahoo says that it has already corrected the problem without incident.
The cross-scripting vulnerability would have allowed hackers to gain access to the accounts of Yahoo Mail customers and execute phishing scams and download viruses onto users' computers.
A Yahoo representative said that it spent the last few weeks correcting the most recent known flaws according to ZDNet, so apparently Yahoo has known about the problem for a while.
Yahoo says that its users are now protected, and they don't have to do anything to ensure that they are. The company seems to have it under control.
These cross-scripting flaws are not all that uncommon. David Utter of WebProNews refers to similar case involving a couple of Google sites. ZDNet points out that besides Google, Microsoft suffered a similar incident with its XBox 360 site.
