As Symantec's portfolio of security and storage products continues to grow, so does the complexity and confusion of making the products work together.
eWeek's Henry Baltazar wrote an interesting article on this topic in which he points out that IT Managers are "drowning in a sea of training manuals" for these products and that Symantec's clients would be much better off if the company consolidated many of these products to reduce the amount of consoles that need to be run. "When Symantec unifies its management platform, IT managers will be able to back up and restore data while also being able to rebuild systems from a single console.
We don't expect a one-size-fits-all über-interface to arrive any time soon, but we do believe that Symantec-and other vendors, for that matter-must ensure that its tools can communicate with each other. " Certainly, the company has its name stamped on many fine products, but there is room for improvement when it comes to their integration with each other.
This seems like an understandable problem considering that Symantec has amped up the amount of money it is spending on acquisitions, as well as continuing to spend quite a bit developing its own products.
The company definitely has its work cut out for it as it gains more and more products.
