Microsoft put out their monthly note on what their monthly security patch will cover. This month's update includes a major security update so it's crucial to get that done ASAP. During the month of August, many who failed to update got a painful lesson on what worms can do to an unsuspecting PC.
The most important aspect of this update receives the highest Maximum Severity rating and Microsoft calls this one critical. They suggest this update may even require a restart. They will be detectable using the Microsoft Baseline Analyzer.
They also plan to put out an updated version of the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool on Windows Update, Microsoft Update, Windows Server Update Services and the Download Center.
There will also be one non-security, high-priority update for Windows on Microsoft Update, Windows Update, Windows Server Update Services and Software Update Services.
Keep in mind the release will be available on Tuesday, September 13th and their webcast will be the following Wednesday. The webcast will go into greater detail on the releases.
Some may remember the worm convergence from last month's updates. As soon as Microsoft announced the vulnerabilities, programmers were already writing worms for them. Keep in mind however that if you received the updates, you were immune to the worms.
