IMlogic has issued a warning about two specific instant messaging and peer-to-peer threats circulating by exploiting weaknesses in MSN Messenger.
The two forms of malware are the Tixanbot Trojan and Guapim worm and use instant messaging to spread. Tixanbot shuts down security protection and broadcasts messages to everyone on the contact list. The message offers a link to download the Trojan.
The Guapim worm is similar, also exploiting MSN Messenger, but other instant messaging services and P2P file sharing networks, distributing links to download a Spybot worm variant.
The announcement of the two worms adds to a list of 140 threats documented by IMlogic in the past weeks including the well-known Kelvir, Rbot, and Zotob worms. IMlogic says blended threats, i.e. IM plus P2P, are on the rise.
There is a nifty running tally of threats here.
