Secure Computing Upgrades Sidewinder G2

Secure Computing announced the release of a number of new Sidewinder G2 Security Appliance software capabilities.
This latest release of software features adds to the already impressive list of improvements in 2005 for the Sidewinder G2 as Secure Computing contends for leadership in the emerging UTM (Unified Threat Management) security appliance market.
The new UTM market being tracked by IDC is identified to grow at a compounded annual growth rate of over 80 percent into 2008.
Important features in the mid-2005 software release include:
-- 802.1q VLAN Termination - Allows companies to manage and apply granular security policies to multiple virtual LAN segments sharing a single network interface on Sidewinder G2.
-- Embedded SmartFilter v4.0 Content Filtering -- Enhances security protections with an expanded database of categorized malicious Web sites, including Spyware, Phishing, Hacking, and more. The latest SmartFilter 4.0 integration extends deeper content inspection on employee Web filtering and allows customers to maximize SmartReporter features that detail employee Web surfing behaviors, trends and policy violations.
-- More Advanced Interoperability with Microsoft Products - Provides multiple domain authentication support using Active Directory and enhanced interoperability with Exchange mail servers.
-- Support for Jumbo Frames - Now supports Jumbo Ethernet frames (packet sizes up to 16,000 bytes) to significantly lower the overhead between the Sidewinder G2 appliances and end devices. This feature meets the requirements of high volume computing centers.
-- Completely New Application Defenses Proxy for Microsoft SQL (MS-SQL) -- Performs extensive protocol anomaly detections by delivering deep inspection on Microsoft SQL traffic widely used on e-commerce sites today.
-- Small Office DHCP Support-Allows cable and DSL modem-based network providers to securely assign dynamically changing public IP addresses to the Sidewinder G2 Security Appliance.
-- Usability and Performance Improvements - Delivers additional increases in firewall throughput, and allows customer-unique customization of Sidewinder G2's "Single Sign On" mechanism.
-- FIPS Progress - Makes use of an improved cryptographic module which is under FIPS 140-2 evaluation at the National Institutes of Standards and Technology.
The latest enhancements of Sidewinder G2 continues a year of rapid development of robust new features, including: an entirely new line-up of appliance models, support for IPv6; three all new Application Defenses proxies (Oracle SQL proxy, Citrix ICA proxy and an IIOP proxy); embedded Sophos for anti-virus services and an all new reporting tool, the Sidewinder G2 Security Reporter.
