Internet security firm Secunia announced their discovery of vulnerabilities in several browsers they say can be exploited by hackers with less than honorable intentions.
According to Secunia's alert: "the problem is that JavaScript dialog boxes do not display or include their origin, which allows a new window to open e.g. a prompt dialog box, which appears to be from a trusted site."
Most browsers fall into the danger zone on this one. The list includes Internet Explorer, Internet Explorer for Mac, Opera, Safari, iCab, Mozilla, Firefox and Camino. Not good for the home team. Actually just about any team at this point doesn't seem to have faired well in this little expedition.
These vulnerabilities exploited by malicious websites spoof javascript dialog boxes and then proceed to get your information. Successful exploitation normally requires that a user is tricked into opening a link from a malicious web site to a trusted web site.
The best way to beat this is when pop-ups pop-up, close the browser window you're working out of. The keep to this issue is to maintain stronger, better surfing routines.
Microsoft said as much in their own investigation. They said that people who follow prescribed protocols should have minimum problems. Doing regular security update would help considerably.
