Symantec announced the availability of the beta version of Symantec Security Information Manager 9500 Series, which offers the industry's first real-time integration of global early warning threat intelligence and powerful correlation in a scalable and easy-to-use appliance.

Scheduled to be generally available in the fall, Symantec Security Information Manager 9500 Series allows organizations to automatically compare their internal security posture with the external threat landscape.

"The importance of managing security information is no longer simply a technology concern, but a critical business issue. However, security management has often been plagued with costly implementations and high staffing requirements," said Rowan Trollope, vice president of security management solutions at Symantec. "Symantec Security Information Manager 9500 Series sets the bar for security management solutions by delivering 'out-of-the-box' value with pre-configured correlation rules and real-time global security intelligence, ensuring our customers have the latest protection against today's threats."

Organizations require a security management solution that compares the security posture of their network environment with security threat activity around the world. Without real-time global security intelligence, security analysts must manually research multiple sources for security information and then compare the data with internal activity, increasing the likelihood of a security breach given the average time between a vulnerability announcement and exploit is 6.4 days (Symantec Internet Security Threat Report, released in March 2005).

Only Symantec Security Information Manager 9500 Series offers the integration of patent-pending, dynamic correlation technology with Symantec DeepSight Threat Management System, Symantec's trusted global security knowledgebase, to deliver continuous security intelligence updates, including automated security alerts, known vulnerabilities, safeguards and attack signatures. This global security intelligence enables IT to stay ahead of fast-moving threats while proactively identifying, prioritizing and resolving critical security incidents.

Symantec Security Information Manager 9500 Series also provides an analysis of the impact of security threats on critical business assets or systems. The solution enables organizations to align their incident response processes with business and regulatory compliance goals by calculating incident priorities based upon system confidentiality, integrity, availability, vulnerabilities and regulatory policies. For added regulatory and IT controls compliance, Symantec Security Information Manager 9500 Series integrates with Symantec Enterprise Security Manager to collect, store, monitor and report on compliance conditions.

Scalable event correlation is also a key consideration for enterprises looking for effective security management. Symantec Security Information Manager 9500 Series captures, filters, aggregates, normalizes, and correlates security events from Symantec and third-party products, enabling IT to manage events across their distributed or complex network environment. Its unmatched correlation technology supports dynamic rules that can automatically identify matches to global threat activity or attack patterns, giving organizations effective threat protection while minimizing administration overhead and staffing requirements. Ultimately, Symantec Security Information Manager 9500 Series helps IT to transform raw log data into security intelligence and focus resources on resolving critical incidents first.

Finally, an effective security management solution must offer out-of-the-box value in order to minimize the total cost of ownership. Symantec Security Information Manager 9500 Series delivers best-in-class security management within a high-performance appliance, making it simple and inexpensive to deploy, use and manage. Its customizable security dashboards and flexible reporting provide at-a-glance insight on evolving threats, while an automated Web-based database maintenance tool enables scheduled data purges and backups for easy data management.
