Hatemongers and right-wingers exerted some control over the net when the released their nasty Nazi worm Sober Q. The worm created millions of spam messages going all over the world.
Many of the messages were in German and took people to various right-wing websites advocating white supremacy and the advocating pro-Nazi viewpoints. The worm hit on the 60th anniversary of the victory over Germany in WWII.
According to various Internet security firms, computers infected with an existing Sober worm were given new commands by the worms writer and thus began the massive onslaught which began last weekend and has inundated computer everywhere.
Alfred Huger at Symantec suggested tens of millions of spam messages had gone out and figured about 10,000 per PC. Those are hefty numbers for this most effective worm. The Sober Q has been floating around since 1993 but this version just affected computers already with the virus and generated all the spam from those PCs.
