WatchGuard received the Editor's Choice Award in the April 28, 2005, Network Computing feature "Firewall Blowout Part IV, Expanding Perimeter Protection."
The review compared competing products from Nokia, ServGate, Symantec, ZyXel, Check Point and Ingate. The WatchGuard Firebox X Core 2500 was rated highly by Network Computing's expert reviewers for its general ease-of-use, configuration and management, effectiveness, performance, and reporting and logging features.
"We tested seven devices and WatchGuard's Firebox X Core 2500 wowed us with its easy-to-use centralized management," said Network Computing senior editor, Curtis Franklin. "The WatchGuard Unified Threat Management firewall was remarkably easy to set up for a device of its capacity. It clearly earned the moniker 'Editor's Choice'."
"Winning the Network Computing Editor's Choice award demonstrates our dedication to driving innovation in our Unified Threat Management security appliances," said John Stuckey, WatchGuard vice president of marketing. "Network administrators in search of a trusted security partner can confidently deploy WatchGuard solutions and easily implement our simplified management to provide the strongest protection on the market. Garnering this recognition from a publication and testing lab as prestigious as Network Computing and its Real-World Test Lab makes the acknowledgement especially meaningful."
WatchGuard's award-winning Firebox X500 through X2500 product line, known collectively as Firebox X Core, operates at throughput speeds of 100-300 Mbps for firewall and 20-130 Mbps for VPN traffic. The company recently introduced the Firebox X Peak line that comes in three models and operates at throughput speeds of 400 Mbps to 1+Gbps for firewall and 200-400 Mbps for VPN traffic.
Also introduced April 25, 2005, was Fireware Pro, an advanced security and network operating system with enhancements to WatchGuard's Intelligent Layered Security and rich networking features that provide the reliability, redundancy and efficiency people need to build and defend trusted business networks.
With an upgrade to Fireware Pro, Firebox X Core models can have the same advanced networking features found in the new Firebox X Peak line, including: port independence with user definable ports, multi-WAN failover and load sharing, traffic management and QoS, dynamic routing support for BGP, OSPF and RIP, high availability and redundancy.
The company also offers Firebox X Edge as an ideal wired or wireless endpoint solution providing complete protection for remote and branch offices or a small business operating at throughput speeds of 80-110 Mbps for firewall and 35 Mbps for VPN traffic.
