Symantec announced that the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Information Analysis and Infrastructure Protection Directorate (IAIP)...

has selected Symantec DeepSight Alert Services and Symantec DeepSight Threat Management System to serve as key security information contributors to the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team's (US-CERT) secure threat alert and analysis portal. The US-CERT is a public/private sector partnership charged with improving computer security preparedness and response to cyber attacks in the United States.

Under the terms of an agreement with IAIP and program contractors, data from Symantec DeepSight Alert Services and DeepSight Threat Management System is being integrated within the US-CERT Portal maintained by The ESP Group LLC, of Arlington, Va., adding to the portal's existing base of information sources. This partnership permits US-CERT's user community of federal information security practitioners to receive DeepSight early warning alerts of vulnerability, network attack and malicious code activity via ESP's managed and highly secure Web-based interface incorporating strong authentication, collaboration and knowledge management tools, and secure messaging.

"The selection of Symantec's DeepSight services for US-CERT's national security audience demonstrates the value of proven early warning capabilities in effective information assurance operations," said Tom Mazich, vice president, Public Sector, Symantec. "Given today's rapid, sophisticated attacks and an increasing rate of vulnerability disclosures, DeepSight's actionable intelligence enables US-CERT to deliver prioritized and valuable advisories with greater potential for pre-empting system downtime and compromise."

Symantec DeepSight Threat Management System tracks security events on a global basis, providing early warning of active attacks. Offering customized notification triggers and expert analysis, the system enables commercial and government enterprises to prioritize IT resources in order to better protect critical information assets against a potential attack. Through analysis of intrusion detection system (IDS) and firewall attack data from more than 20,000 sensors in more than 180 countries, plus virus statistics from Symantec Security Response and other human intelligence resources, Symantec experts identify attacks and deliver actionable analyses and countermeasures.

Symantec DeepSight Alert Services delivers customized vulnerability and malicious code alerts to inform of new potential threats and proactively mitigate risks. The service delivers notification of vulnerabilities and exploits as they are identified, providing timely, specific information and guidance to help mitigate risks before they are exploited. Symantec analysts monitor potential threats across more than 18,000 distinct software and hardware product versions and deliver detailed alerts based on the exact configuration of subscribers' IT environments. By eliminating hours spent searching through Web sites and emails to gather actionable information, public and private sector subscribers adopt a proactive approach to security while saving time and money.
