SupportSoft announced that it has signed an OEM agreement with Shavlik Technologies.
SupportSoft intends to include Shavlik NetChk vulnerability assessment technology with SupportSoft Patch+ for real-time, targeted patch updates. The combined solution can accelerate enterprise patch management and make it easier to protect large, geographically distributed enterprises against real or emerging threats for which a patch is available.
According to industry analyst David Friedlander of Forrester Research, Inc., "There are constantly mobile systems 'in the wild' that can bring threats back inside the firewall, and they need protection while outside of the corporate network." Since remote and mobile users are typically outside the protection of a corporate firewall, they require rapid and reliable means of receiving patches to defend themselves against computing or security vulnerabilities, as well as to protect the corporate network when they connect their systems inside the firewall.
SupportSoft Patch+ is designed to help manage and secure tens of thousands of end-user computers, both inside and outside the corporate firewall. SupportSoft Patch+ can patch and configure nearly 100% of vulnerable computing endpoints within hours, and can verify compliance in real time. Patch+ can also enable IT organizations to harden corporate, remote, and mobile endpoints against emerging threats by effectively targeting or controlling configuration changes and providing critical alerts.
SupportSoft intends to integrate Shavlik Technologies' patch management technology with its Patch+ solution to scan for and remediate known patches. A key benefit of this integrated approach is the ability to allow hard-to-reach remote and mobile end-users to have their computing systems secured from potential vulnerabilities as new patches become available.
The integrated Patch+ solution is expected to enable enterprises to automate the discovery and distribution packaging of missing security patches, minimize reboots, rapidly deploy patches and verify their installation for thousands of computers simultaneously -- no matter what their location. Key automation features, such as easily obtaining relevant patches and verifying installations and reboots, can increase the speed, accuracy and success rate of enterprise-wide patch deployments.
"Getting the right patches across entire enterprises, including remote and mobile users, is one of the hardest, yet most important jobs of the enterprise patch administrator, because those populations are generally beyond the protection of the corporate firewall," said Mark Shavlik, president and CEO of Shavlik Technologies. "By adding our automated patch capabilities to SupportSoft Patch+, administrators can more quickly and easily implement a patch management process that fills this critical gap in patch management, while enabling them to save time and money, increase endpoint security and ensure compliance with government regulations."
"Shavlik's industry-leading technology and services are the perfect complement to SupportSoft Patch+," said Chris Grejtak, senior vice president of products and marketing at SupportSoft. "The combined offering fills a critical gap in patch delivery; namely, ensuring that enterprise endpoints -- both inside and outside the firewall -- are effectively assessed, patched, and verified in real time. This is critical for regulatory and IT compliance, as well as making sure that all corporate end-users remain productive."
