Juniper Networks' Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP) products are the first intrusion and prevention systems (IPS) to receive daily signature updates.

Daily signature updates are key to improving organizations' threat coverage and responsiveness to network- and application-level attacks. These updates are provided daily during the business week and as needed on non-business days.

The risk of network attacks shows no signs of slowing. According to the Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute's CERT Coordination Center, which identifies security issues on the Internet, there were 3,780 vulnerabilities announced in 2004. Any one of the vulnerabilities could lead to a possible network attack incident. Supported by a dedicated Juniper Networks security team, the new daily signatures are part of an on-going commitment to protect customers against such attacks including worms, Trojans and other emerging threats. The goal is to equip security administrators with the most up-to-date information to better protect their networks against today's increasingly sophisticated Internet attacks.

"To defend against an ever-growing array of network- and application-level attacks, enterprises must continually update their threat detection and mitigation systems," said Jim Slaby, senior analyst at Yankee Group. "Your network is only as safe as its last update. More frequent updates translate directly into shorter windows of vulnerability to known attacks."

"Targeted efforts to disrupt business flow continue to grow. This is why network awareness is particularly critical in the corporate infrastructure," said Sanjay Beri, director of Product Management for Emerging Technologies at Juniper Networks. "By providing security administrators with actionable and relevant data on a regular basis, we're improving network visibility and business continuity. This is all part of our strategy to deliver secure and assured networking solutions to our customers."

The Juniper Networks IDP products integrate application and network visibility with incident investigation and remediation, helping customers quickly and confidently deploy inline attack prevention. When deployed inline, the Juniper Networks IDP effectively identifies and stops network and application-level attacks before they inflict any damage, minimizing the time and costs associated with intrusions. IDP not only helps protect networks against attacks, it also provides information on rogue servers and applications that may have been added to the network without an administrator's knowledge. A centralized, rule-based management approach offers granular control over the system's behavior, easy access to extensive logging, and fully customizable reporting.

The signature updates reflect an aggressive release schedule that will be daily during the business week and on an emergency basis during the weekend. Juniper Networks IDP customers can choose signature updates daily or follow the weekly cumulative updates that are provided every Thursday, when the summarized notification is also distributed. For the IDP customers on a cumulative signature update process, emergency signature updates with e-mail notifications will continue uninterrupted to address a specific threat that may break out within their networks.

Daily signature updates are available today across the entire Juniper Networks IDP product line, which include the NetScreen-IDP 10, NetScreen-IDP 100, NetScreen-IDP 500, and the NetScreen-IDP 1000.
