Zix Corporation announced that St. Peter's Health Care Services, a New York nonprofit healthcare system based in Albany, has signed a three-year contract for ZixCorp services.
St. Peter's selected ZixVPM (Virtual Private Messenger) and ZixPort email encryption services to comply with mandates of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). ZixVPM will enforce email security policies to ensure secure handling of confidential data for 1,300 users, including a pre-configured HIPAA lexicon that automatically detects and encrypts Protected Health Information (PHI). ZixPort will provide custom branding and encrypted messaging functionality to St. Peter's Web site.
"It was important to us to take the necessary precautions to protect our patients' confidential information," said Jonathan Goldberg, chief information officer for St. Peter's Health Care Services. "We see great value in ZixVPM. It's so easy, our users don't have to take any extra steps."
"Our prominence in protecting the email of healthcare providers continues to grow, especially in the Northeast," said Rick Spurr, chief executive officer for ZixCorp. "And with the HIPAA Security Rule only weeks away, our easy-to-use and easy-to-deploy solutions can still help organizations achieve timely compliance for their email."
