Mirage Networks' CounterPoint endpoint control appliance has won a Productivity award in the Security category of Software Development magazine's 15th annual Jolt Awards.

According to Software Development magazine, winners of the Jolt Product Excellence and Productivity Awards are those products, books and websites which judges believe to have had a "jolting" effect on the industry, "helping to create faster, easier and more efficient software." The awards presentation is sponsored by Jolt cola, fabled to be used by software developers for sustenance during development projects.

"This has been an exciting and challenging year of Jolt judging," says Rosalyn Lum, Software Development magazine's technical editor. "Every year, the competition gets tougher. Not only did we rename several categories and add a new category in midstream, we had an unprecedented number of nominations."

"It is an honor and a privilege for CounterPoint to be recognized as a leading security product by one of the foremost publications in the software development community," said Toney Jennings, Mirage Networks President and CEO. "The Jolt Productivity award is especially significant to us, as it is usually won by development tools and software. Simply making it to the Finalist round was a great honor -- having won a Productivity award is a testament to the quality of our product and the excellence of our engineers."

CounterPoint is a virtually in-line appliance that identifies, slows and contains malicious traffic without interrupting normal business communications. CounterPoint is self-contained, requiring no signatures, no agents and no network re-architecture to detect and mitigate known and unknown rapidly propagating threats immediately. The product's behavioral algorithms detect unwanted activity and surgically contain the source of the malicious traffic, effectively blocking it from the network and preventing it from spreading.
